Four generations of Global Executive MBA gathered at EADA’s Residencial Training Centre
A total of 29 participants from Global Executive MBA gathered at the first GEMBA Homecoming Event hosted at EADA’s Residential Training Centre in Collbató on June 24 and 25. There were attendees from the three last three editions and the fourth that just began their second Collbató module on June 26. They came from all over the globe including Russia, Indonesia, Germany, Colombia, Vietnam, Thailand and South Africa.
Networking and leadership
It was a perfect occasion for networking. Some of them had studied together but hadn´t seen each other since their graduation. Many others had not met each other. For all these reasons, they took the opportunity to reconnect with old classmates and make new contacts, whether it be during the welcome dinner or the following day when participating in different activities.
One of these activities was a leadership session with the motto ‘Keep discovering the leader in you’. This activity was split into two parts. The first one consisted of a short theoretical session about leadership skills development. the second one was more practical and consisted of facing the challenges of the new outdoor training zone in Collbató. Indeed, they were the first group to test this new zone. Here the attendees performed in small groups several ‘high ropes’ activities –from 5 to 8 meters off the ground– which fostered their personal and collective values. Connected to high ropes, they all had to overcome fears and psychological limitations and also emotional and physical challenges.
In the afternoon, many of them walked around the Montserrat mountain and others went to Barcelona for a city visit. At night they got together again at a restaurant located in Passeig de Gràcia.
Marjolein Overmars, Global Executive MBA Director, felt “so happy to see the excellent relationship among the GEMBA Alumni, who remembered the good moments lived in Collbató”. In her opinion, “this event demonstrates the sense of community of all GEMBA participants, not only during the programme but also after finishing it”.
In addition, Melissa Handley, EADA Alumni and EADA Career Services Director, insisted on the great opportunity to do networking: “They could interchange impressions about their careers and also make contacts for future collaborations”. She pointed out: “Proof of this excellent relationship is that all of them agreed to meet annually in order to maintain contact”.
Global Executive MBA
Marjolein Overmars highlighted that “this event has strengthened the good relationship between EADA and HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, the business school which EADA develops this programme with”. She adds: “The Global Executive MBA is a unique programme which is designed for professionals with a university degree and a minimum of seven years of experience, three of these as an executive. In 21 months, the participants complete their education in 9 or 8 weeks of intense work: three in Barcelona, three in Leipzig and two (or three) more in their chosen destinations – China, India and/or Brazil–. Upon ending it, the participants are awarded the double certification of the EMBA, on the one hand from EADA and on the other hand an official certificate recognized by the German government from HHL”.
Overmars remembered that the Global Executive MBA responds to the needs of many companies and executives to have an authentic global perspective of business: “It covers all the classic areas of an MBA and contributes the global component through its location in three continents. An essential part is the development of leadership skills. We understand that true leadership can make the difference between success and failure”.
