Residential week for the Global Executive MBA Program at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management
27 participants of the Global Executive MBA Program of German HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management and Spanish Escuela de Alta Dirección y Administración (EADA) are currently completing a residential week in Leipzig. The two-year part-time training for managers who have more than seven years of professional experience centers on the peculiarities of business practices in the western European countries, with a special focus on Germany and Spain. In addition, participants will gain insight into the economies and cultures of the Chinese, Brazilian and Indian markets by completing elective modules at renowned business schools in these emerging economies.
Innovation management using the example of the new BMW electric car
Topics such as innovation management and corporate finance are a part of the curriculum during the current residential week in Leipzig. Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, HHL Dean and Chairholder of the Deutsche Bank Chair of Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, comments on the relevance of the Innovation Management class, “The development of innovation is becoming increasingly important in times of rapid technological and societal changes. The EMBA participants will expand their existing knowledge in this field as well as their skills of idea and strategy development, market launch and diffusion. They will apply these skills to real-life cases, partially from their own experience. The focus is on the development and launch of electric cars using the BMW i3 as an example.”
Global Executive MBA supports managers reflecting their daily work
It is exactly this practical relevance that convinced 37-year-old Kristina Petkova to choose the Executive MBA Program of HHL and EADA. The native-born Bulgarian, who works as a general manager in the field of risk management at Hypo Alpe Adria Bank in Austria, says, “I find it very exciting and enriching to learn from experts from science and practice. The Corporate Finance class got me to reflect on my daily work at the bank from a completely different point of view. I also learned many new things from Prof. Dr. Schwetzler.”
Kristina Petkova will use the impetus from the Innovation Management class for her Master’s thesis. She is working on a project examining bank services for groups of people who are not customers of a financial institution due to their limited income.
At the Halle/Leipzig automotive location, the EMBA students from Brazil, Bulgaria, Germany, Indonesia, Iceland, Israel, Colombia, Russia, Spain and Turkey gain valuable insight into production at the BMW and Porsche factories. The cultural program includes, among other things, a guided tour of the galleries and workshops in the Leipzig Spinnerei, an old cotton mill, and a visit to the Leipzig Christmas market.
The Global Executive MBA Program of HHL and EADA
The structure of the 21-month program has been adapted to the professional and personal needs of international managers. For the MBA double degree from HHL and EADA, participants must successfully complete eight six-day residential weeks on various management disciplines over the course of 21 months and write a Master’s thesis. The Global Executive MBA Program consists of six compulsory modules of which three must be completed in Germany and three in Spain. Another two of three electives have to be completed at renowned business schools in Brazil, China or India. In addition to teaching core competencies in economics, the development of key qualifications such as communication, negotiation, conflict and diversity management as well as intercultural management abilities, which are all essential for international leadership positions, is a vital part of the program.
